Rebels in Libya (600 #2)

I read these articles about Gadafi and about the things that he is doing and it is making me sick. All of these people just want some freedoms and they want their government to be less corrupt. I would not like my government to be this corrupt and unfair.  I would hate Gadafi if he was in charge of my government and a lot of my life.  I feel that he is too much in power and I also think that he is not that willing to step down from power. I think that is crazy because if I was in charge of a country and there were rebels taking over the government I would feel like I had to step down because it would be the best thing for the country. I see this as a really selfish and cruel thing to do because then his country is taking the fall for something that he did.

The rebels are starting to take control and the government keeps fighting back but it turns out that a lot of the government rulers are turning over to the rebel’s side. This is a good sign because then the government will go down and then they will be able to create a new government and that will help their country so much. I cannot wait to see how Libya progresses and how they will become better. I think the no fly zone is a good idea for the country as well. I think this will let the people get an advantage because the regular people can’t fight with planes even though the government can. This will even the playing field and help the rebels pull through. This in my opinion will be the best thing that could happen to this country. I can’t wait to see how Gadafi will react if the US will enforce the no fly zone. I think that he will not be too happy because that will mean that he will probably be in big trouble in the area of his power because he will lose a lot of it really really fast.  I actually think that he would get run out of his own country in a second and nobody would even hesitate because in the end it would be really good for the rebel’s country.

The last point I want to make is the fact that these rebels are actually really really inspiring because they are basically being forced to fight against their friends and neighbors because of what they do in their life. That is super sad because they probably don’t want to do that and if you think about it, it is probably really hard to do. I hate to see this and I pray for the people in Libya and I hope they can pull through and pull out a win for their country and that would inspire me to the max because of what they had to do for it.

Review; Ghost city symbolizes cost of nuclear disaster

This story is a really touching one. I know a little bit about the story of Chernobyl’s nuclear disaster but this is a really detailed story about a city that was nearby the actual disaster.  This story is sad because they imply that these kids died and that is so sad because I have family that are that age and that just makes me so sad to think about how they suffered. I don’t like to think that this community which was once a really good community got destroyed by the chemicals and explosions.

Review; Doubts Raised on Book’s tale of Atom Bomb

I think that this article is really interesting because I find the whole atom bomb story really interesting and the story behind that and WWII. I find that people think that his story is false because he was going off of someone who wasn’t actually there kind of ridiculous because if you think about the claim that says that if the person isn’t there then their story is faulty then you would realize that it is not that bad. I think that the guy’s story that the author quoted was valid but because he claimed it to be true he got more crap for that then actually just saying that it was the guy’s opinion. I think that people are taking this whole story way out of proportion and if you ask me I don’t care as much as some people because I just see it as this… The book is already published so…. There isn’t much you can do. I don’t think that this is something to even worry about. It actually really bugs me too that people are bugging the guy’s family about it even though he just died. People need to lay off of him and calm down. I doubt the book is even that good.

Review; God Said Multiply and Did She Ever

I read this article and within the first few paragraphs I was instatntly amazed. I cannot believe that someone could actually have that much family. I also find the things that Yitta Schwartz did to be pretty amazing. If I had that many family members I don’t think that I could keep up and I would probably  go batty. I really look up to someone like this because she had so much to do and that is just insane that she would still go o important events and remember everyones names. She must have some kind of amazing memory. I could use that sometimes because unlike her I do not have a good memory.
She was part of a group of people that all have a lot of children and in turn have a lot of grandchildren. Not a lot of people in this group though live to see their great great grandchildren like this woman did. I find it crazy because she was a holocoust survivor and she had so many children that her legacy is now passed on. That is crazy because there are now 2,000 more people on this planet because of this woman. CRAZY!!!!!!

Review; Snowboarder

This article was really inspiring to me because I am a skier and I can relate to her crash and her struggle for finances. I have had similar crashes and I also have trouble going skiing sometimes because my finances are low. I really feel like this story is a really inspiring and really cool. She, to me, is a really inspiring person because she has been through so much and it makes you think of how hard your life really could be. I think that the worst part about it all is that she was off by fractions of a second of qualifying for the Olympics right before her accident. That to me would be the worst part because you would always be thinking “what if...” which would make me go insane because I would like to change the past. This article also inspires me to never give up because I can see from her experiences that even though times might me bad you can always pull through and come back from failures. I think that her failures that were mentioned were really bad compared to what the more people experience in their everyday life because they were so huge but to me that itself inspires me to get past the small failures.

Review; Officials See Slander in Uzbek Photos, but Artists See Censorship

I think that this article is a really interesting article to read because I think of myself as somewhat of a photographer and this story just devastates me to see someone who enjoys the same thing as I do get in trouble for doing what she enjoys. My first impression when reading this article was one of shock and anger because I don't like to see someone who is expressing themselves get in trouble for it. I don't see the need for the trouble though in my opinion. I actually think that spending the countries money on something as ridiculous as that is crazy because I don't think that is the best thing to do when the state of your country is in such bad condition. I also find it funny that while the country was wasting money on a ridiculous trial like that, at the same time the trial itself could have prevented what it was protecting. I think that this is total violation of freedom of speech. Truly I think that even though the laws and regulations of the country may be different than ours that no matter where you live you should never go on trial for photographs that they take.

Japan (600 #1)

The earthquake that happened in Japan and the following tsunamis lead to some extreme destruction and devastation. This was a news story that appeared everywhere from the minute it happened to the minute that videos were released and all the way to now. I think that this news story really hits home to me because I have had close to twenty Japanese exchange students that have actually lived in my house and it actually scarred me to think that some people that I know were most likely effected. I also think that this news story hits close to home because I live right on a fault line and to think what would happen if that were to break and become a huge earthquake like the one that happened in Japan I know that my family would have a hard time coming back from that and so I feel sympathy for the people in Japan and about how much that they have lost.
The first time that I heard about the earthquake was actually on the way to school that morning that it had happened. I was really shocked and surprised because no more than one day before had we driven one of our students to the airport to board a flight back to Japan, which meant that she was just getting back from Utah when the earthquake/tsunami hit. I was really worried about her and her safety and I was also thinking about what would have happened if the earthquake had hit just one day before. If that would have happened then she would probably have stayed for more time and would have waited until it was safe until she went home and then that would have effected me even more than it did already.
The same day I went to school and I went to almost every class and heard updates and learned what was happening and it to me was almost like a “9/11” moment. That to me just means that I will always remember where I was and what I was doing that day. I will always remember how and when I woke up and remember hearing it on the radio on the way to school and I will always remember how I learned something new about the disaster class by class.  I will always remember learning about the nuclear plant too, which was going to meltdown and possibly cause radiation poisoning and things like that to the surrounding areas.
I think that even though people might say that this disaster wasn't as big of an issue compared to disasters like hurricane Katrina because it was not in the United States, I say that is completely wrong because the magnitude was so great and the disaster was so huge that it doesn't matter where it was. I always think about what it would be like if the same disaster happened in the United States and it just devastates me to think what it would be like. I really feel for the people of Japan and I think of the suffering they must be going through. I really would like to help out in Japan with the relief effort and I have donated some money and I really would like to do more. I think that it is just a personal thing  that drives me to help out the people of Japan and help my friends that live there and that I have come to known. I really feel good about the progress and it is the best thing to see the progress in the help that is happening in Japan and I can’t wait to see more
